Memorial Day in Hampton Roads

Memorial Day is a holiday reserved to honor our many brave soldiers, and for most families, this time of remembrance is spent with loved ones, enjoying Memorial Day activities and Memorial Day movies over a long holiday weekend. It’s a time to reflect together upon the holiday outside of summer fun — themes of freedom, justice, opportunity, and sacrifice abound.

Whether you have family members in the military or want to remember those who have passed on, spend a moment with those closest to you honoring the individuals that allow us to be the land of the free and the home of the brave.

LOCAL VETERAN-OWNED BUSINESSES

Pale Horse Coffee

Pale Horse Coffee is a veteran-owned and operated business air-roasting our premium beans in small batches from our roastery in Chesapeake, VA.

During our 70+ years of combined service to our country in the Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard, we found a passion for great coffees and we hope to share that love of caffeine with you and your families!

Young Veterans Brewing Co.

Veteran owned, operated and located in the heart of Virginia Beach, VA. We at Young Veterans Brewing Co. don’t like to take ourselves too seriously, however, our product quality is a different story

Fathom Coffee

Fathom Coffee is the result of a passion for coffee and a passion for IT.

Our little craft coffee company was founded in 2016 by Bob Werby, Jeff Werby, and Lisa DeNoia. While working for a Virginia Beach defense contractor, Jeff and Lisa spent many hours navigating complex IT projects, requiring lots and lots of coffee. Coffee roasted by Jeff’s dad, Bob, fueled countless long days and nights working to meet never-ending deadlines.

As Bob’s began perfecting his roasting techniques, Jeff and Lisa spread their love for coffee amongst their friends and coworkers with an open door to anyone interested in joining them for a fresh cup brewed at their “underground” Chemex pourover coffee bar at the office.

For 2 years, people continually asked where they could buy the coffee and received the response, ” You can’t. This is the best coffee you can’t buy”.

Warriors Taphouse

Military service has special meaning for the 3-founders, Dave Culler, Mike Herron and Tony Bird. Having served in the military, or having family members who have served; we understand the sacrifices required by those who have taken the oath to support and defend the freedoms we hold so dear.

Culler is a retired naval aviator, who had commanded (F/A-18) Squadron VFA-136 at nearby Oceana Naval Air Station, and was the Commanding Officer of Naval Station Norfolk. Herron’s son is currently on active duty in the United States Marine Corps, and Bird is a former UDT-SEAL. All three men’s fathers served in the military.

Our personal experience has inspired us to support a new mission; giving back to those who have given so much. Exceptional support to our combat wounded, nation’s fallen, veterans and their remarkable families is our new calling. Warriors Taphouse is ready to answer the call.
